John Wangunyu is a lecturer and researcher based at the Department of Liberal, Development and International Studies (DLDIS) of the Technical University of Kenya (TU-K), Nairobi. His research interests traverse the fields of human and societal wellbeing incorporating environmental and developmental determinisms such as politico-economy, governance and leadership, public administration and policy. He also has considerable consulting experience in the design and deployment of development programs in deprived regions and marginalised communities of northern Kenya. He holds a BA in Economics, Politics & Public Policy and a Master’s degree in Development Studies. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Global Development & Public Policy at the Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CTST), TU-K. His doctoral thesis explores the political economy of devolution, looking at Kenya’s experiences since the promulgation of a new constitution in the year 2010 which changed Kenya’s governance framework by introducing localism and new public management (NPM) principles and ethos in devolved units known as counties.
