Economies in Africa are striving to achieve the goal of universal access to sustainable, clean, and affordable energy. Energy justice is an essential component of these goals, for it ensures the marginalised have been considered. Addressing the energy transition challenges requires intellectual debate to influence stakeholders in the energy sector in Africa. To address this challenge, we will be hosting an international conference that aims to contribute to a sustainable energy transition for Africa.

The “Beyond the Light” conference will bring together stakeholders from academia, industry, government, and civil society to examine the complex realities of energy transitions across Africa. Emphasising a holistic approach that interweaves technological innovation, governance, social justice, and environmental stewardship, the conference aims to bridge research, policy, and local action, particularly in the East African context.

As a capstone event for the NORHED II project focused on, “Capacity Building for Socially Just and Sustainable Energy Transitions in East Africa” (2021–2026), the conference will showcase research, policy dialogues, and grassroots perspectives, fostering collaborative solutions for equitable energy development on the continent.
