Angelina Mattijo Bazugba is the Founding Director of the National Transformational Leadership Institute (NTLI) at the University of Juba and an Associate Professor in the School of Social and Economic Studies. A leading academic and practitioner in gender equality, leadership development, and conflict transformation, she has pioneered leadership programs that have empowered hundreds of South Sudanese women and men across diverse sectors. Her groundbreaking research on gender in public administration (GEPA), Women Preparedness for Elections and the gendered impacts of COVID-19 have informed national policies and programs, while her facilitation of high-level dialogues on peace, migration, and displacement has positioned her as a trusted voice in bridging research, policy, and practice. Through partnerships with UN Women, UNDP, DAI, and the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, Dr. Bazugba has successfully connected international support with local leadership development initiatives. A trailblazer in higher education, she developed South Sudan’s first Master of Arts in Transformational Leadership and Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership, shaping the next generation of leaders. Beyond academia, she is a member of the Women Coalition for Peace and signatory to the R-ARCSS, represents academia in the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (RJMEC), and serves as National Coordinator of the African Higher Education in Emergencies Network (AHEEN), a Mastercard Foundation–supported program advancing education in crisis contexts.
